THE BOSTON MODEL OF CARE

A strong service starts
with the person.
Everything follows.

A building is only the beginning. Policies need to work in practice. Technology should give people more choice. And a care business needs a clear purpose beyond opening its doors.

My approach brings these pieces together: the people you support, a workable service model, a capable team, the right environment and governance that holds it all together.

01

Choice & independenceSupport that helps people shape their own lives, relationships and place in their community.

02

Practical, person-centred systemsClear responsibilities, useful records and processes staff can understand and follow.

03

Technology with a purposeDigital inclusion and tools that support communication, confidence and everyday independence.

SPECIALIST EXPERTISE

Understand the person.
Design better support.

Learning disabilities

Person-centred support, decision-making, positive risk-taking and opportunities to participate in everyday community life.

Autism

Communication, sensory needs, predictable routines and environments shaped around the individual, including transition into adult services.

Mental health

Support models that recognise mental health alongside other needs, with thoughtful risk planning, staff support and coordinated professional input.

Expertise grounded in specialist service leadership, Shared Lives, adult safeguarding and supporting young people into adult life.

HOW I CAN HELP

From a blank page
to a clear way forward.

One focused piece of work or support across the whole journey. The starting point is your ambition, your responsibilities and the people your service will support.

01Build a social care company

Turn an early idea into a practical operating model. Define your purpose, who you will support, how the service will work and what must be in place before launch.

  • Service concept, scope and development roadmap
  • Company setup planning, roles and governance
  • Staffing model, recruitment and induction planning
  • Operational budgets, referral pathways and launch priorities
02CQC registration & readiness

Practical support to prepare a coherent application and a service that is ready to operate. The documents, people and proposed delivery model need to tell the same story.

  • Registration route and regulated-activity scoping
  • Application preparation and statement of purpose
  • Policies, procedures and governance evidence
  • Nominated Individual and Registered Manager interview preparation

CQC makes all registration and rating decisions. Consultancy supports preparation; it cannot guarantee approval, a timeframe or a rating.

03Care providers & property partnerships

Help care operators, developers and property management companies work towards the same service vision, with clear responsibilities from the outset.

  • Match the proposed service model to the property opportunity
  • Develop operator and property-partner briefs and introductions
  • Clarify operational, housing and care responsibilities
  • Coordinate the right planning, legal and property specialists
04Operational quality & digital systems

Build the everyday systems behind a consistent service, so staff know what to do and managers can see what needs attention.

  • Policy implementation and staff acknowledgement journeys
  • Safer staffing, training and compliance workflows
  • Audit schedules, action tracking and management oversight
  • Digital records, accessible communication and independence-focused technology

CARE × PROPERTY × PEOPLE

The right partners.
The right environment.
A shared purpose.

Residential care, supported living and community support require different arrangements. I help partners understand the model they are building before decisions about property and operations become difficult to change.

A clear journey from joining to confident practice.

Explore the same kind of staff journey I built for Pro Care: a welcoming dashboard, induction tasks, clearly named documents and private policy acknowledgements.

Create a free Substrate company workspace, add your own handbook and policies, then invite your team. The example uses fictional people and original sample text; Pro Care’s documents and records stay private.

Free pilot. A verified account is needed for your own workspace. Add documents you have permission to host. Live-data suitability and operational checks remain your organisation’s responsibility.

PROVIDERS · FREE PILOT

Substrate.

The people and practice behind care.

A developing digital care record and workforce platform. My aim is a functioning, free option that helps smaller providers spend less time on administration and more time supporting people.

SeedsStaff records, compliance checks and rotas.

Providers can create their own company workspace, with staff and manager access. Company records are separated by access controls.

Pilot status: start with fictional records. Live-care readiness, recovery and real-account workflows still need validation. Each provider must assess privacy, security and operational suitability before using real care data. Current free hosting limits apply; unrestricted capacity or permanent free infrastructure is not promised.

A FEW USEFUL ANSWERS

Before we begin.

Can you help if I’m starting from nothing?

Yes. We can begin with your idea, define the people and needs you want to support, then work through the service model, company setup planning, registration readiness, workforce and launch requirements. Scope and fees are agreed before work starts.

Do you work with property developers and managing agents?

Yes. I can help shape a service brief, connect care and property partners and clarify responsibilities. Property suitability, planning, fire safety, accessibility, leases and legal arrangements need the relevant qualified specialists.

Is supported living the same as a residential care home?

No. The care, accommodation and contractual arrangements differ. Establishing the right model early helps partners understand registration requirements and protects people’s choice and control. Read CQC’s explanation ↗

Where do you work, and how are fees agreed?

I’m based in London and can discuss projects across England, remotely or on site by arrangement. After an initial conversation, I’ll propose a scope, deliverables and fee. No fees or commitments are created by sending an enquiry.
